From the smoking ruins of The Silent Sorcerer's tower, Skullsword sends forth nonsensical artwork and useless gaming tools. He also likes to discuss RPGs, boardgames, miniatures painting, writing, movies, books, and whatever else strikes his fancy. Mostly though, his goal is to provide fun and goofy things to inspire others in their games. Enjoy!

These ideas are intended as adventure seeds to spark the imagination. Of course they need to be fleshed out, but...
Weird Adventure Idea:
On a bracing day you encounter a graceful adventurer dressed in a fancy cloak along the road. The adventurer offers to walk with you for a ways and weaves a tale for you as you travel. The adventurer says that four weeks journey to the northeast, within The Crevice of Flesh Eating stands The Dripping Cairn of Forgotten Despairs. It is thought that hidden within the cairn is The Execrable Amethyst Lantern of Barbarity. The adventurer tells you that a sorcerer seeks this lantern and will pay 1000 gold coins for it! But beware, for the adventurer warns you that The Fiendish Serpent Men of Flaying enslave all who dare enter that place!

Free Map Monday!
Here is a small map that I drew on a rainy day quite some time ago for use in a game that I still haven't gotten around to running. Originally, it was a black and white map on graph paper. I've since taken the time to color it, and am pretty happy with how it turned out. It's got some standard cavern things, stalagmites, an underground stream, a waterfall, a fountain with an eerie green obelisk, and of course some giant mushrooms. :-)
Fell free to take it, re-share it, use it as is, or change it however you see fit. Stock it with monsters, treasure, and nefarious traps, or stock it with unicorns, rainbows, and spun sugar. Whatever you fee like. So break out your favorite roleplaying game rules, whether it'sTunnels and Trolls, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Far Away Land or anything else you're in to. If anyone does use it to create an adventure, please feel free to link to your creation in the comments area, I'd love to see your work.
If you enjoy this map, feel free to check out the rest of my blog for more stuff:

New miniatures painting tools
I picked up a couple of Citadel Painting Handles this weekend, and so far, I'm pretty pleased with them. They are spring loaded and can hold both round and square bases. They also do a great job of keeping me from touching the paint, which has always been a bit of a problem for me. $8 U.S. from your local hobby store of from the GW web store.

A Grim World of Perilous Adventure Revisited
Back in 2016, I wrote this post, whistfully wishing for a new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay"
http://jrl755.blogspot.com/2016/06/a-grim-world-of-perilous-adventure.html
Well, Yesterday my wish was granted when I downloaded to PDF of the new edition from Cubicle 7. I haven't had much time to read it in detail, but so far the game feels true to the first and second editions with none of the "fiddly bits" from third edition. The artwork looks great, and I'm hoping that there will be a lot of support for it in the future. Since wishes do seem to come true, my next wish will be for a Chaos supplement so that I can play a Norscan Reaver. Time to dust of my Chaos Warrior miniatures!
Check it out here: http://cubicle7.co.uk/our-games/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay/
You can get the PDF of the new edition as well as PDFs for the 1st and 2nd edition rules, perfect for all of us old grognards!
So is anyone else as excited about this as I am?
Also, don't forget about Zweihänder, which is an awesome WHFRP clone and is running a new Kickstarter as we speak!

Last Night's Dungeon Crawl Classics Adventure: Spine Eaters from Hell!
The sad demise of Kragrock Hornhelm the dwarf miner and Jamril the animal trainer.
The party swarmed the beast and managed to defeat it without taking any more serious damage (my dice had gone seriously cold after killing poor Kragrock). Jones the halfling chicken butcher, wielding the obviously cursed blade that had been transforming his body into something distinctly non-halfling, managed a critical hit and immediately doubled over, his body wracked by yet another transformation.
In our continuing Roll20 Dungeon Crawl Classics funnel adventure on Monday evening, the vengeful townsfolk of Coverdale pressed their pitchfork and torch assault on the Tower of Cyclopentaxor.
Having slain the baby-headed rat demons creatures that were infesting the basement storeroom and having burned their nests, the party discovered a chamber with a trapdoor in the floor.

Suspended from the ceiling directly over the trapdoor was a mysterious blue sphere, and similar pale white spheres were suspended over each of the four doors to the chamber.
Kragrock Hornhelm, the dwarf miner, bravely strode forth and grasped the iron ring of the trapdoor. As he began to raise the portal though, the blue sphere dropped from the ceiling, sprouting eight pointy legs and a fanged trunk as it fell. With uncharacteristic agility, Kragrock managed to roll out of the way of this descending horror and sprang to his feet with his trusty pick ready for battle. Sadly, the creature was quicker than Kragrock and speared him through the chest with its fanged trunk, spraying Kragrock's compatriots with dwarf blood and fragments of dwarf spine.

Flush with victory, the party almost failed to notice that the white spheres above the doorways had begun to descend. Gripped by indecision about whether to go though the trapdoor or to engage these new foes, the party hesitated until the white sphere were just above the doorways. Jamril the animal trainer was the first to act, striding confidently toward the sphere nearest to him with his weapon drawn. Unfortunately, Jamril's attack had little effect, and as the sphere neared chest height, a fanged trunk emerged from its smooth surface and tore through poor Jamril killing him instantly and once more showering the party with bits of spine.
And the other spheres continued to descend...
Thus ended another glorious evening.
