Kickstarter: Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom 5!

Those of you who follow this blog, know that I'm a big fan of Darcy Perry's miniatures, and his latest Kickstarter may be my favorite so far.  These miniatures look fantastic, and I absolutely love the barbarian!  So if you're looking for some great miniatures at a great price, the get here in the next 16 days.   You won't be disappointed!  Also, if you're curious, check out my review of the figures from his original Kickstarter here. 

Miniatures: Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom III Kickstarter

     Alright, there are just 10 days left to get in on +Darcy Perry 's latest Kickstarter Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom III!  Both of his previous miniatures Kickstarter's have been fantastic.  This guy has talent.  I won't rehash all of the details of the previous campaigns here, but here are links to my review of Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom I and to a preview that I did for Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom II.  Those will give you a lot more detail, but just let me say that Darcy makes some great miniatures, and both previous Kickstarters have been right on time.  

     These are excellent miniatures for any fantasy game, but I particularly love them for Dungeon Crawl Classics.  If  +Goodman Games is ever planning on doing an official line of DCC miniatures, then +Darcy Perry is the guy that they should look to for the sculpting!  I mean, just look at these miniatures:

     Oh, and did I mention the Beholder with an optional party hat?  Or the Dragon?  Yes, if funding reaches $10k NZ, there will be a dragon add-on available...

     Also, there is a pledge option of around $370 US where he will sculpt a custom miniature for you!  That pledge level is limited, and there are only 3 left.  If someone doesn't claim those last slots, I may need to scrape together some more cash and subject my gaming group to a Skullsword miniature. ;-)

Let's be honest guys.  Nobody wants to see that, so hurry up and get on board while there is still time!

So there are only around 32 hours left to get in on the second Kickstarter from Starhat Miniatures.  I backed the first Kickstarter and I can honestly say that I loved these miniatures by +Darcy Perry .  And who doesn't want a St. Andre Troll?  Also if it reaches $7000NZ, there is a Star Princess miniature...

(Preview Review) Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom 2 Kickstarter

Want to know about what to expect from +Darcy Perry 's new Kickstarter Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom 2?  Well, we've got a hands on review with 3 of the miniatures!

On 15 January I finally got around to posting my review of the first Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom Kickstarter.  Tow days later the second Kickstarter Launched!  Today, I received three preview miniatures in the mail to review.  So, I'm going to review these guys, but don't forget, if you like them get over to Kickstarter and pledge before the campaign ends!   

Full disclosure, these miniatures were provided to me to review free of charge.  I have no involvement in the Kickstarter, nor with Starhat Miniatures.  The opinions in this review are mine alone.  I'd also like to apologize for the quality of the photos, as I had a hard time getting the lighting right for photographing unpainted miniatures.  Now that we have all of that out of the way, let's get started!

Just like the previous releases, these miniatures are SOLID.  They have great heft in your hand and wonderful bases to prevent tipping.  This is what I've come to expect from Starhat Miniatures, so while it's not unexpected, it's something that I really appreciate.

The first miniature that we are going to look at is Vok Whightkicker.  He's a goblin mage with a toad familiar.  His staff is topped with a human skull, so don't mess around with Vok.  He's got some groovy feathers in his hat too for added style.  I really like the position of the toad, as it looks like he's whispering secrets to old Vok.  Let's turn him around and see the other side.

Here we see a belt pouch and a dagger with a skull pommel.  I'm a sucker for skulls.  We can also see the feather in Vok's cap a bit better.

Next up we have Ailgavart the Ensorceller.  

This guy looks like he may have started his career as an assassin, but turned to magic later.  His eyepatch is adorned with an image of an eye and perhaps it acts as a means of magical sight.  His staff is no mere conjurer's staff, but rather looks as if it could double as a small pole-axe topped with a magical orb.  The fingers of his left hand appear to be making the motions of a spell, or maybe it's a wizard gang sign.  "Wizards only, fools!"  Either way, it's awesome.

From the back, we can see that he's carrying a quiver of arrows and a short bow.  No doubt so that he can continue to rain damage upon his foes while his spells recharge.

And finally, we have Saetog the Sorcerer. 

Saetog's got a fireball in his right hand ready to fling at his foes, while in his left, he wields a pretty mean looking staff.  I haven't decided what's on top of the staff, but I'm thinking that it's got lenses in it for focusing various spells.  He's also got a scroll tube attached to his belt, where he no doubt keeps his backup spells.

To me, these miniatures have a wonderfully old school and whimsical feel to them, but with more modern sculpting.  I loved the old Grenadier gold box sets from the late 1970s because those miniatures evoked a sense of wonder in me, and that's the same sense that I get from these.  These aren't the boring same-old same-old, but rather represent one sculptor's unique vision.  They have tons of character about them and feel like great sculpts of the types of character you might have expected to see at an RPG table in the late 70s where somebody was playing a goblin wizard, just because it sounded cool!

As of today, there are still 7 days left in the Kickstarter, so I would really suggest heading over and taking a look!  I'm really looking forward to Kroag when this set ships.

New Kickstarter: Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom 2!

Well, just as I finally finished my review for the Delvers Lost in The Dungeons of Doom Kickstarter,  +Darcy Perry has launched the next one!  Honestly, the first one was fantastic, and I expect the second will be even better.  So, if you like miniatures, consider throwing some coin at this one guys!

I can't wait to paint Kroag!

Kickstarter Review: Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom!

Amazon, Wizard ,and Dark Cleric

Every year, I institute a moratorium on miniatures purchases, and every year something happens to make me buy more miniatures.  In 2016 , the big thing was the Kickstarter for Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom! by +Darcy Perry and Star Hat Miniatures.  I came across this Kickstarter, and one look at the preview sculpts had me hooked.  I have to say that I was not disappointed in the results. Not only did they show up early (November instead of December), but I love the sculpts.

Berserker, Knight, and Barbarian

The first thing that you notice about these miniatures is that they have HEFT in your hand.  They are solid with excellently sculpted bases.  No slotted plastic bases here, or thin metal bases to save on casting material like companies such as Reaper have been doing in recent years.  These guys are meant to stand firmly on your gaming table!

Dwarf Lord, Druid, and Crusader

There is a ton of character in these sculpts with a bit of whimsy thrown in for good measure.  Just check out the mindflayer janitor.  :-)   In a market filled with miniatures, these are really something special.  The Miniatures are heroic scale at around 35-38mm, so they will stand out from many of your other miniatures, but as they are primarily PC miniatures that's a good thing.  Your PCs should be easily distinguishable from the other miniatures on the table.  They are the heroes after all!  The added bonus is that, being a little bigger, they are easier to paint for old guys like me. :-)

Janitor, Bard, and Alchemist

If I had to single out my favorites from this wonderful collection, I'd have to go with the Wizard and the Barbarian.  The wizard because he reminds me of the most bad-ass Gandalf in down, and the barbarian because he's a barbarian (and he has a mohawk).  I managed to get some of these guys primed before the weather turned too cold here, and I'm really looking forward to starting to paint them.  It's a long weekend here in the U.S. so I may just start today!

Thief, Ranger, and Assassin

I believe that +Darcy Perry  is working on another set for a future Kickstarter, so if you missed out on the first one, do yourself a favor and keep your eyes open for the next one.  Check out Star Hat Miniatures to keep up on the progress.  Also, if you live in New Zealand, I think that some gaming stores are carrying individual figures for sale from this set.

Kickstarter Ennui

So, my Conan board game Kickstarter rewards arrived on 26 October, and I have yet to open it.  I should be exited, but 20 months after pledging, I just really don't care.  I backed it for the miniatures, but even those fail to excite me anymore.  Given that the rulebook is by the creators' own admission, a mess, I'm unlikely to even try to play it until I have a printed copy of the new version in my hands.  This is my trouble with Kickstarter.  Many of them look cool and lure me in, but past a certain point, I lose interest.  Oh, well.  At least I have a bunch of new sword and sorcery miniatures (221 to be exact).   Does anyone else find themselves generally feeling blah about Kickstarters once they arrive?

Kickstarter: Holy Crap: The Great Sects Change Operation (Only 24 hours left!)

There are only 24 hours left in +Andy Hopp 's Low Life RPG Kickstarter!  For those of you not familiar with Low Life, it's an awesome Savage Worlds setting, the post-apocalyptic world of Oith which is populated by the mutated descendants of snack cakes, worms, roaches, smelfs, and other assorted wacky creatures.  I really can't do it justice, so check out http://muthaoithcreations.com/ if you'd like to learn about the world.  I've been a big fan since the first edition, and I was really excited when the new edition came out last year (I bought 2 copies).  Now there is a new Kickstarter for a book exploring Oith's religions.  Come on, you know that you want to know what sort of gods mutated intelligent twinkies worship, don't you?  If you like gonzo, you really owe it to yourself to check this one out!

Massive Darkness Board Game Kickstarter In Its Final Hours!

There are less than 14 hours to go in the Massive Darkness Board Gamer Kickstarter from CoolMiniOrNot.  The campaign is fully funded and has passed the 3 million dollar mark with a ton of stretch goals unlocked, many of which are KickStarter exclusives.  The game looks like an awesome dungeon Crawler, and there are even optional buys available that turn this into a truly massive game.  The sheer number of quality miniatures might be worth the $120 pledge price alone!  So, if you are on the fence about this, it might be time to stop over at the campaign site and have another look, as time is running out!  Also, feel free to share this with any of your friends who might be interested.

Massive Darkness KickStarter

I'm a sucker for miniatures, and I always have been.  I've been buying miniatures since around 1980 and have far more than I will ever be able to paint in the maybe 30 years that I have left.  In recent years, I've even been trying (with little success) to reduce the number of miniatures that I have to by giving some of them away.  Then along comes something like the latest KickStarter from +Cool Mini or Not Inc.  Massive Darkness.  It's a dungeon crawling board game (which I love), and it has a ton of cool looking miniatures (which I also love).  The game is fully cooperative, so unlike Descent, it doesn't require one of the players to act as a game master.  That really hits a sweet spot for me because I've never been that keen on one player versus everyone else type games.  Plus that barbarian miniature looks awesome!  There are several other videos on the page, and the miniature count is already well past 100 with the stretch goals.  There are also several add-on expansions available which add more characters, monsters, and board pieces.  Overall, it's a really cool looking game.  I've got to admit that this one is going to be tough to resist...

Kickstarter: Mystery at Port Greely (Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea): Only 10 hours to go!

The Kickstarter for Mystery at Port Greely has only 10 hours remaining.  If you're a fan of Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea (or if you just like Swords and Sorcery), don't miss this opportunity.  For only $20 you can get the print and PDF copies, which I think is a fantastic deal.

Kickstarter: Conan RPG

The Conan RPG Kickstarter from Modiphius is closing in on $300,000.  I backed it based on the Quickstart rules.  There are some definitely interesting ideas in the rules, but I haven't had a chance to try them in actual play yet.  In any case, it's good to see Conan making a return to the RPG scene.

Kickstarter: World Architect Cards

Simian Circle Games, creators of the wonder RPG Far Away Land are doing a Kickstarter for their
World Architect Cards.  The cards are designed to allow you to quickly create overland maps, and there is still plenty of time to get in on the action.  If you haven't checked out any of their products. head over and have a look.  They make great stuff, and the artwork is fantastic!

Free Conan RPG Quickstart Rules!

Modihpius, which will be publishing the upcoming Conan RPG has put the Quickstart rules up on DriveThruRPG.com, and they are free!  It looks like the Quickstart contains an introduction to the rules, 7 pre-generated characters and an adventure.  I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but I will admit to being curious as to how their 2d20 system works.  For those interested in the full game, the Kickstarter for the full game is still ongoing, and can be found here.
Being a huge Conan fan, I've downloaded the Quickstart and will post more on it later when I've had time to look through it.
